Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome which may also be known as cyclical vomiting disorder is highly associated with the excessive use of Cannabis. It was 1st discovered in the year 2000. Data from different sites on internet was gathered and analyzed. And then compiled on the basis of case reports and no. Of patients admitted due to Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome. Data was also extracted from the articles written on Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome. All of the data was combined in a commulative synthesis.

The data was based on the occurrence of Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome, diagnosis and the proposed treatment plans and then on the basis of survival and death rate. During data gathering almost 2178 articles were found regarding Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome, from which only 1253 were reviewed and 183 were selected for the data analysis. Data about the diagnosis of Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome include 14 articles. Along with this, the data main characteristics of this syndrome are mentioned below.

  • It is roughly estimated that almost 277 million people are taking Cannabinoid or marijuana i.e. 4.9 % of the total population. 
  • In 2014 to 2016 almost 22 million people were using cannabis or marijuana. In this calculation, which usually adults were involved.

  • Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome is recorded mainly in men as compare to women. As men are more in to addiction things as compare to women. So Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome was seen in men, in almost 72.9% of cases.
  • Abdominal pain was observed not in all the cases of Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome. The data collected on the basis of abdominal pain shows that, in almost 85.1% of patients abdominal pain was recorded. 
  • On the basis of cannabis or marijuana use, it is recorded that almost 97.4 % people use cannabis once a week. 

The mechanism of Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome was still unclear in 2016. So there were many treatment options proposed to treat this syndrome. Topical use of capsaicin was considered the best treatment for the acute Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome at that time. But it was temporary. The permanent treatment to this syndrome was quitting of cannabis or marijuana use. Talking about the differential diagnosis, Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome resembles a lot to cyclic vomiting disorder. As cyclical vomiting disorder is considered as a main symptom of Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome.

All the above mentioned data was recorded in the year 2016. As from year 2000 it was progressively increasing day by day. Now a days Cannabinoid use have become common among individuals and the death rate is also increasing day by day. Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome is still under investigation for the exact pathophysiology of this syndrome.
