Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome 2018 Statistics

In 2018, the data about the prevalence of Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome was gathered. The data was specific about a place which was "urban public hospital". The data was all about the regular users of marijuana or cannabis. Usually patients of age 18 to 49 years, were admitted in the hospital emergency. The total number of patients admitted were 2127. And among them almost 155 patients were marijuana or cannabis regular users. It was estimated, according to the patients history, that these patients were using marijuana almost regularly i.e. 20 days a month.
A survey was conveyed on these patients by distributing a questionnaire among them. A trained researcher designed this questionnaire to collect data about the recovery methods and rate of recovery from Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome.

This questionnaire was of great use. In this survey, mostly patients with Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome survived by overcoming the severe and intense vomiting along with abdominal pain and nausea. They mentioned about taking hot water bath regularly and sometimes 3 to 4 times a day.
Patients resported that they experience the symptoms almost all the time. If they are smoking marijuana or cannabis, they are experiencing nausea and vomiting along with abdominal pain. All these symptoms does not appear off and on but all the time.

These patients rated hot water bath in such situation as the best way to get rid of these symptoms. They rated hot water bath on the scale of 1 to 10 which is 5 and sometimes 10. This is the easiest symptoms relief method. Patients who survived out of those, who were admitted in the hospital, almost 32 % were taking marijuana or Cannabis on regular basis. They met the criteria of having Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome.

In those patients the data gathered was all about Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome.
In those patients, history of cannabis or marijuana use was recorded with a specific duration of time.
Patients with Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome must experienced cyclic vomiting disorder in almost all the cases.

  • When these patients stopped taking cannabis or marijuana, they symptoms got resolved in almost 96.8% of cases. 
  • In 92 % of cases, the symptoms got relief by taking hot water bath. As it is considering the easiest way to get rid of these symptoms. 
  • Abdominal pain was not reported in all the cases like nausea and vomiting. In almost 82 % percent cases of Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome, the abdominal pain is reported. 
  • It was recorded that almost 92 % of users of cannabis or marijuana are using these abusive drugs on weekly basis to experience less symptoms. 
  • Mostly male patients were admitted to the hospital because males use cannabis or marijuana more commonly as compare to women. A survey report mentioned, almost 72 % of cases of Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome are about men. 
  • The symptoms of cannabinoids hyperemesis syndrome may last up to 24 to 48 hours. But it may last up to a week in some cases. It was concluded that, cessation of cannabis is the best and permanent treatment of Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome.
